FEGA EXIT

What is more liberating than getting in your car and driving wherever you want and

stopping whenever you want?! No schedule, no passengers, no agenda.

That is just what Location Manager Russ Fega did when he took a road trip up the

Oregon coast.

I’d never driven up the coast of Oregon and it’s something I’d always wanted to do.

Some days I traveled long distances and some days I was satisfied just moving a few miles up the coast.

I wanted to be true to whatever impulses I encountered and to be free to let the pace of my adventure be determined moment by momentI

Along the journey I met many people, like the guy who had moved away from southern California and followed his dream: an internet café/surf shop in Coos Bay or the elderly couple I had breakfasted with--they liked my maps.

I hiked along a path of redwoods where signs were posted warning of mountain lions. The best way to prevent an attack, they said, was to make noise. So I sang. I sang out loud.

There was the beautiful Lithuanian woman at the hotel in Astoria who made me feel lonely. There were buffalo, llamas, sea lions, dead raccoons and a zebra.

And there was my camera, my traveling companion. There is something so satisfying in capturing an image that evokes a sense of place, time and mood.
