Story by Marie Healy

Join us on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27th as The Langham, Huntington Hotel and Spa hosts the LMGA's Biannual Event!
Mark your calendar for this wonderful opportunity for location professionals to revisit this amazing property, and to take a tour and experience the rich history firsthand.

In 1911, Henry E. Huntington purchased a failed resort hotel in Pasadena's Oak Knoll residential district. The Wentworth Hotel underwent major interior and exterior renovations, re-opening as the Huntington Hotel in 1914. For decades, the Huntington has been Pasadena's leading luxury hotel.

During World War II, the hotel was rented to the US Army for $3000 per month. However, a portion of the hotel was still kept open for guests.

In 1954, the Sheraton Hotel chain purchased the "West's biggest resort hotel" for $4 million dollars. For 30 years, the Huntington Sheraton thrived until earthquake standards became an issue.  In 1985, the hotel closed its doors indefinitely and was slated for demolition.

Community awareness and funding was raised to save the historic landmark. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company took over the property in the late 80's. After a 2 1/2 year major renovation, the hotel was re-opened in 1991 as the Ritz-Carlton, Huntington Hotel and Spa.   The hotel continued to be a favorite of celebrities, seeking a hideaway a short limo ride from Los Angeles. But it was generally perceived to be "off limits" for Hollywood productions, unlike The Biltmore and Ambassador Hotels.

The Langham Hotels International recognized the potential of this elegant landmark. Under their ownership, the Huntington Hotel and Spa reopened its doors, 94 years to the day of its very first debut- impeccably renewed as The Langham!

With their history of preserving and renewing the legendary heritage of its properties, the Langham is excited to align with filmmakers and put this fabulous hotel on both the little and big screens!
