Having the LMGA booth at the Association of FIlm Commissioners International (AFCI) Location Trade Show in Santa Monica was a gratifying experience for all involved. The trade show presented a fabulous opportunity to visually communicate the intricacies of Location Scouting and Management. What better way to educate than to personally share one’s experience with both the domestic and international film production communities?
We met new friends and re-connected with old ones, such as Chair of the UK Guild of Location Managers, Mick Ratman.

A huge hand of applause goes out to the many members who signed up to be the face of LMGA during the Trade Show : Lori Balton, Alasdair Boyd, Kris Bunting, Briana Burke, Elisa Ann Conant, Matt Cooper, Kim Crabb, Claudia Eastman, Kristi Frankenheimer, John Grant, Terry Gusto, Jody Hummer, Howard Harnett, Terilee Huff, John Jabaley, Steven Kardall, Steve Levine, Kent Matsuoka, Richard McMillan, Barbara Miller, Jill Mitchell, Jill Nauman, Stevie Nelson, Peter Orth, Debbie Page, Daniel Rosenthal, Paulina Salazar, Tony Salome, Carole Segal, Beth Tate, Gina Vreeland and Business Member Michael Marks of MNM Locations. The Huntington Gardens graciously offered free passes to LMGA members who visited our booth, and merit a special note of appreciation as well.

Who are we? The first panel of our booth illustrated our unique level of diversity by showing “US” in action. It was a delight to receive an outpouring of member participation. We represent the creative face that finds the visual representation of the written word. Additionally, our Guild encompasses the many businesses we rely on to effectively accomplish our job responsibilities.

On the next panel of the booth, our logistical talents came into focus. There is a long list of responsibilities that often go unrecognized until something goes awry. The main wall of the booth showed a fabricated script line and the corresponding “to do” list, married to a map of scouted areas.  It was well received, and garnered many requests for permission to copy from film commissions seeking to further educate production personnel on the value of hiring Location Managers and Scouts.

The third part of our booth represented our involvement in the community: Concentric Circles, Last Looks and The Green Event. Our collective brain trust has the connections and “know how” to produce events to further impact the community in a positive way. Personally, I am thrilled to be a member of our group, coming together to passionately
support our  causes.

We do make a difference and our collective voices are heard! Getting involved and realizing that I am a vital part of the LMGA was rewarding on a professional and personal level!
