Welcome to the LMGA

LMGA AT FILM INDEPENDENT

Added June 8, 2008 by P Orth

On January 22nd, 2008, the LMGA was invited to present a “Consult This” event for Film Independent  membership. Film Independent is an organization whose primary mission is to help their 6300 member filmmakers get their projects made and seen. Film Independent puts on the Independent Spirit Awards, as well as the Los Angeles Film Festival. The event was a talk aimed at teaching filmmakers about what Location Managers do, and about the inner workings and challenges of shooting on location.
LMGA president Kayla Thames Berge, and board members Veronique Vowell and Peter Orth made the presentation, with help from a video by Timothy Hillman.
Veronique especially was instrumental in conveying the benefits of working with a qualified Location Manager, as well as the complexity, responsibilities, and unique aspects of our jobs.
The Filmmakers in attendance were developing projects whose location needs ranged from Amazon Jungle to ordinary movie theater. Our hope is that we helped them better grasp the realities of location work, and that when their productions do go out to shoot, that they will do so with a Location Manager on board and with a better understanding of the issues involved in bringing a crew into a real world situation.
