THE LMGA's 2ND ANNUAL "FAMILY FUN NIGHT" AT PACIFIC PARK

Added August 8, 2007 by P Gluck

Thanks to all our members and business partners who turned out on Sat. Aug. 11th for the LMGA’s 2nd Annual “Family Fun Night” at Pacific Park in Santa Monica, CA.  It was great to see you! The weather was gorgeous, sunny SoCal perfection, with a light ocean breeze that carried on into the sunset. Pacific Park’s culinary team rolled out the grilling stations and served mesquite barbequed chicken and tri-tip, with a side salad buffet that included potato salad, baked beans and fresh watermelon. Giant cookies--snickerdoodles and death by chocolate--were the featured desserts, with ice cream novelties for the kids.

Each family received “game bucks” for the midway, where triple-threat names like Wac-A-Mole, Break-A-Plate and Roll-a-Ball ruled. And everyone received unlimited ride wristbands. The bumper cars, Ferris wheel and scrambler proved popular, as did the Pacific Plunge, Sea Dragon and the West Coaster--the only West Coast, oceanfront, steel roller coaster located on a pier over the Pacific coastline.
It is remarkably smooth and the ocean sprays added to the excitement as it escalated to a height of 55 feet before dropping, twisting and looping back to the platform. The views of Santa Monica Bay and the Pacific Ocean as it trails from one end of the Park to the other at 35 mph are spectacular. A new ride for 2007 and one I haven’t seen elsewhere, the Crazy Cruisers, whirls riders 360 degrees overhead as they pedal bicycles and experience the force of 2 gs. The Park also features the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel, which shows off a panoramic view of the coastline from more than 130 feet above the pier.

Pacific Park is the West Coast’s only family amusement park located on an oceanfront pier and it provided a unique experience reminiscent of the pier in Santa Monica’s historical days. It has something for everyone, from rides and games to great food and shopping. Most importantly though, Pacific Park is FILM-FRIENDLY!!
