LMGA  Committees


Everything the LMGA does is the result of committee action. Below is an alphabetic list of our committees and their respective chairpersons and members.  Most committees hold bimonthly physical meetings. Without member participation the LMGA  will not advance or evolve. We encourage and expect each member to consider where his or her talent may best be put to use, and to participate in one or more committees.  Our committees offer an excellent means for you to get to know other location professionals.  Take this opportunity to work with respected colleagues, and to demonstrate your many skills. Awards and Recognition
The Awards and Recognition Committee promotes recognition for the contributions made by location professionals.  It establishes award procedures and distributes awards for deserving professionals in our craft.

Communications
Press, Public Relations & Marketing--Represents the organization to all media; enhances the organization’s image, including written and verbal communications with the press & media. Issues press releases for Guild events/projects and maintains a list of all press contacts. Develops and expands the Guild’s relationship with press representatives.  Maintains copies of all materials appearing in the media about the Guild. Represents the organization to the community. Establishes, maintains and improves the favorable relationship between the LMGA and the public. Develops and maintains a strategy for marketing the Guild to the public and the industry.

Education
The Education Committee develops and coordinates programs to educate the film community.  Programs include subjects of specific interest to location professionals but with an appeal to other crafts.  The goal is to create a higher awareness and level of understanding of issues that affect our profession.

Events
The Events Committee plans, coordinates and supports Guild events including meetings, mixers, and special functions. Committee responsibilities include securing unique venues, promoting each venue "location" via website articles and photos, designing invites and mixer themes, and coordinating event logistics and staffing.

Executive
The Executive Committee oversees the day-to-day operations of the board, and acts on behalf of the board during on-demand activities and management that occur between meetings.  Such actions are presented for full board review.  It is comprised of the Board's President, VPs, Secretary and Treasurer.

Finance
The Finance Committee oversees the budget, and works with LMGA bookkeeper to ensure accurate tracking, monitoring, and accountability for funds. It reviews major grants and associated terms, and ensures adequate financial controls. Chaired by the Board Treasurer.

Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Committee develops and implements appropriate action in response to community and political issues which affect the film industry.  It works with Local 399 in Los Angeles in planning actions that accurately, strategically, and professionally represent the best interests of location professionals.

International
The International Committee develops relationships with location professionals, organizations and associations around the world.

Membership
The Membership Committee develops and administers all aspects of business with new and existing members including membership drives, application processing, reference verification,  and orientation of all members: Active, Associate and Business.  It develops and maintains the LMGA mailing list.

Newsletter
The Newsletter Committee is responsible for the publication and mailing of the quarterly official LMGA newsletter “The Compass.”

Nominating / Elections
The Nominating and Elections Committee identifies needed board member skills, recruits potential members and handles procedures for the annual elections.  It also holds an organizational meeting after the elections to orient new board members. 
NOTE:  Members currently running for election to the Board cannot serve on the Committee.

Philanthropic / Outreach
The Philanthropic and Outreach Committee promotes the welfare of others by donating time and resources to good causes as deemed appropriate by the Guild.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted at every LMGA Event and delivered to local charities.

Rules
The Rules Committee reviews motions that affect the bylaws or policies prior to final approval, and ensures that the approved changes are made to the appropriate documents.

Special Projects
The Special Projects Committee is an incubator for Guild-sponsored projects, this committee encourages and guides new projects to fruition.

Volunteer
The Volunteer Committee keeps an active list of our members who cannot make a long-term time committment, but who are happy to be available to assist the LMGA with specific finite tasks that come up.

Website
The Website Commmittee is responsible for creating, maintaining, and enhancing the official LMGA website. All members are encouraged to submit material for the website.
