Concentric Circles Info

The March 1st opening reception for "Concentric Circles" at Beady Minces was a great success, attracting some 400 guests, an industry heavy crowd that included local City Council Member Bill Rosendahl. Thank you all for coming. Thanks to the sponsors, volunteers, and to Herman Hagan and Metro for making the exhibition possible.

The exhibit closed on Saturday March 8th. There will soon be an online version of the show on this site, so if you were unable to make it to the actual exhibit, you can still see the fine photography.  Please plan to come back to this page, and take a look at what the LMGA and especially Lori Balton and Peter Mays put together.

“CONCENTRIC CIRCLES:  METRO L.A. REVEALED,” a photography exhibit and catalog, is the result of a special collaboration between the LMGA and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).

Thirty-three location scouts and managers scoured the Los Angeles Metro system and surrounding areas, moving out in concentric circles.  Rather than merely documenting our city, their photography is a discovery of unaccustomed views, a celebration of ordinary places viewed through discerning eyes.

The opening reception for “Concentric Circles” took place on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 7:00 to 11:00 pm, at  Beady Minces Gallery ,  1311 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice, CA.

The gallery is an architectural stunner—and is available for film
shoots, repped by Meyler and Company.

This project exemplifies our goal of acknowledging the creativity and talent of our membership.  You have done us proud--it is a pleasure and a privilege to bring this work to the public in such a vibrant space.   The photographs selected by our curator, Peter Mays, present a compelling, unconventional view of Angelenos and our transportation system.  Peter Mays is the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Art Association (LAAA), an 82-year-old non-profit organization committed to showcasing the finest in emerging art.

Special thanks to our project collaborator, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

We are also grateful for the contributions of Leo Reed, Secretary-Treasurer, Hollywood Teamsters Local 399; Cast Locations, Los Angeles Center Studios; and Meyler & Company Locations.
